Thank you Carolyn Marie Wright for following through on your impulse to engage artists in a dialogue about Charleston and #BlackLivesMatter; and, subsequently, the community. These pics are from a piece I created about how the media forgets that queer Black women created #BlackLivesMatter, it's about the forgotten Black women and girls who've been killed by police, and it's about how women have had to pull each other up and carry each other throughout history.
I've learned a lot from the project, fellow artists, and the night. Mostly, that we can never know, but we can engage. With each other, from who we and our experiences are. We can listen, and communicate in response. It sounds so simple, but it feels so complicated sometimes.
